Taboo - health care

Why do we still have Taboo topics in this decade? Working in the Health Care Industry, I've recognised how quickly you become to being desensitised from exposure. By this I mean that helping out as a Health Care Assistant can mean washing someone, helping them to the toilet, feeding them, pad changes and talking about very sensitive topics. Being desensitised on nudity and personal care was a huge thing for me as I would always do my artwork 'Guidelines to Humanity' based on topics that would make me feel really uncomfortable. Because of this dilemma, I studied it for 2 Years in my M.A, and still graduating with a barrier on what is my next progression with art. I focused on all different elements of taboo, from illness', death, nudity and money and while looking into this, I realised that taboo areas go back many years, researching about this topic in relation to biblical 'Adam & Eve'.
Whilst doing the experiments above, I started to really ask my self is there really not a taboo area that brings slight discomfort for me? Whilst indulging into this idea, I realised that the thought of being in labour and the principles of giving birth makes me feel uncomfortable by the thought of pain and the procedure it endures. Though I have not had a child and would probably have a complete different thought process the day this happens, I realised watching the likes of 'One born every minute' would make me feel slightly uncomfortable, So i did challenge my self to start to steer the project to this direction with the drawings below.
